Murders Past

I'm glad the holidays are over. The weather up here has been awful. The sun hasn't been out for weeks now. The quiet has been getting to me.
I've had several drunken evenings since I last wrote. Last week I was at Pearl's house. Her father shared some info with me. He researched the murder of the teenager back in 1974. I forget the kid's name, but he was 17 years old. His parents had a summer cabin on Forest Lake. He was missing for a while. Then his body turned up on a small island in Forest Lake. His head was missing. It was speculated at the time that the mafia was involved, since the kid and his parent's were from Chicago, but nothing solidified. The murderer was never found. Either was the head.
Pearl's father told me about a similar murder back in 1910. A ten year old girl was killed. Ot at least everyone assumed she was killed. It happened during the night. The girl's parents never heard a sound. In the morning they went to awake their daughter and opened her bedroom door to a horrible sight. Blood and guts everywhere. But no body.
